Toshiba Carrier’s SMMS-u Dantaro VRF Series Wins Energy Conservation Center Chairman’s Award

Toshiba Carrier Corporation (TCC) announced that its SMMS-u Dantaro variable refrigerant flow (VRF) series for cold climate regions won the Energy Conservation Center of Japan’s Chairman's Award in the product and business model category of the 2022 Energy Conservation Grand Prize. 

Sponsored by the Energy Conservation Center and supported by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the prize annually recognizes outstanding energy-saving initiatives implemented by businesses and workplaces that can serve as models for others, as well as products and business models. The goal is to recognize contributions toward establishing an energy-saving society through enhanced awareness of energy conservation and expanded use of energy-saving products throughout Japan.

TCC’s products have been honored with these prestigious awards more than 30 times, and the company has won a prize at the awards for nine-consecutive years. The award ceremony will be held in February at Tokyo Big Sight.

The SMMS-u Dantaro was launched in July 2021 as a VRF system for cold climate regions to address needs for decarbonization by moving away from combustion heating to electric heating and improved indoor air quality with features such as energy-efficient ventilation and fresh-air intake systems. 

The award-winning product is also designed and developed with innovative technologies and functions to overcome challenges conventionally seen with indoor units and air handling units used at low-ambient temperatures. These technologies and functions have been validated by a joint study with Hokkaido Electric Power Company.
