Against the tariff Crisis| Step into Africa (III): Morocco——a strategic transfer for Chinese enterprises towards globalization

Morocco: Investment hot spots and transfer

Morocco, which has a superior geographical location and open market, is becoming a new strategic transfer choice for the global development of many Chinese companies.

According to Maroc diplomatique on April 3, for several countries in western North Africa, Trump's tariff policy may bring unexpected opportunities to Morocco. Compared with Algeria (30%), Tunisia (28%) and Libya (31%), Morocco only needs to pay 10% tariffs, which has an export advantage, which may make Morocco a tax avoidance springboard for many companies, especially for industries, such as manufacturing, thereby promoting the development of the Morozan industry.

Morocco is located in the northwest corner of Africa, facing the Mediterranean Sea to the north, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west, bordering Algeria to the east, and connecting to the disputed area Western Sahara to the south. The special location makes Morocco the only country in Africa that has both the Mediterranean and the Atlantic coastline.

Morocco is only 14 kilometers away from Europe and is a hub connecting the three major markets of the EU, the Arab world (Middle East) and Africa. From Tangier Port, the sea transportation time of goods to European markets has been significantly shortened to about one-third compared to shipments from China and Thailand, and it is only about 10 days to North America.

At the same time, as the only signator in Africa and the Middle East that has a free trade agreement with more than 50 countries and regions, including the EU, the United States, Turkey, African countries, Arab countries, Canada, etc. Morocco has become an important transfer for many Chinese industrial chains to reach North American and European markets. Data shows that through the goods from Moroccan technical secondary school, the logistics cost can be reduced by about 30% on average.

Among many overseas investment destinations, Morocco is becoming a new node for the strategic transfer of Chinese enterprises with its unique geographical location, stable political situation, rich natural resources and preferential tax policies.

According to RACC, in terms of HVACR field, many world-renowned companies, such as LG, Samsung, Hisense, Haier, Hailiang, and Midea have been chosen to enter the Moroccan market.

Morocco: Economic development will take off in 2025

According to Morocco's "Economist" report on April 14, the African Export-Import Bank released the "2025 Africa Trade and Economic Outlook", showing that Africa's economy grew by 5.8% in 2024, with exports of goods of US$682 billion, an increase of 10% year-on-year; imports of US$719 billion, an increase of 2.4% year-on-year. The deficit was US$37 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 53%.

In March 2025, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) named Morocco as one of the best and leading reformers in trade facilitation in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region in 2024, and Morocco ranks third in the region's trade facilitation ranking, behind only Israel and Oman.

Previously, the Moroccan Economic News predicted that Morocco's GDP could reach US$164.6 billion in 2025, a year-on-year increase of 4.6%. Among them, household consumption is expected to grow from 3.2% in 2024 to 4.1%.

The rise of Morocco's economy will drive the vigorous development of many industries.

Morocco: One of the three most important air conditioning countries in African markets

In 2017, China and Morocco signed the "Memorandum of Understanding on Jointly Promoting the Construction of the "Belt and Road". That year, China-Mordan bilateral trade reached US$3.83 billion, and by 2024, the scale of China-Mordan bilateral economic and trade increased to US$6.439 billion.

Under such a close cooperation framework, "Made in China" and "China Infrastructure" are constantly integrated into Morocco, especially in 2021. With the steady growth of domestic projects and the significant increase in foreign direct investment (FDI), Morocco's construction industry ushered in unprecedented development opportunities. Against this background, Morocco, one of the three most important air conditioning markets in Africa, has made significant development in the residential field. With the increasing urban population, it is expected that by 2030, the urban population will increase by 150%, which will not only increase urban energy consumption, but also drive the continuous growth of air conditioning demand. However, the current air conditioner installation rate for urban residents in Morocco is only 25%, which means there is still a huge market space for development.
