The Brunel Building by Derwent London has been designed to offer high quality office space and the 605 EVO270 FCUs provided by Ability will supply heating and cooling across the fifteen floors.
Ability Projects’ EVO270 fan coil meets the heating and cooling requirements of the most demanding building developments — and with the lower acoustic levels that many modern buildings now need due to their exposed ductwork. Additionally, because of its compact size, the EVO270 can fit into even the smallest ceiling voids.
According to James Brazier, mechanical project manager for builder Laing O’Rourke, the building’s modern design incorporates exposed concrete features, along with the installation of exposed high-specification services. “It was vital that we installed fan coil units which fitted the space restrictions, as well as the overall aesthetics of the design. Ability was able to provide us with a product that met our high standards and fulfilled our low noise output requirements,” he said.
Jon Freeman, product manager, Ability, admitted that the project had some very specific requirements in terms of active heating and cooling, as well as noise restrictions.
“In commercial buildings, we are seeing an increased drive towards quieter units,” he said. “Buildings have very clear acoustic guidelines and we put our FCUs through over 10,000 acoustic tests which are then validated by the University of Southampton. Also, by maintaining heating and cooling duty in a smaller fan such as the EVO270, we can help developers make substantial cost savings.”
