Hollywood Trucks LLC, the owner of Ecoluxe, the eco-friendly entertainment transportation, signed a global exclusivity contract with the SolarCool Group in late 2015. Just a matter of months later, the company’s ground-breaking solution is being employed on a number of the most high profile movie sets on the planet. Additional high profile projects currently using the latest generation Ecoluxe off grid fleet are 20th Century Fox’s Wolverine and Sony Pictures/Marvel Enterprises Spiderman.
On just fuel consumption alone, the combined budget for powering production vehicles on a single film set can run from hundreds of thousands of dollars well into the millions. Although this in itself is clearly and ever increasing cost concern for the production companies, many of the high profile movie stars feel the environmental impact of CO2 reduction is a much greater issue. The founder of Hollywood Trucks, Andre Champagne felt the same way and firmly believed there was a credible and efficient fix for this ongoing problem and so the EcoLuxe Clean Energy System was born.
Ceo of Hollywood Trucks LLC, Andre Champagne, said: “While testing of our first prototypes, the single largest energy consumer in the whole unit continued to be the comfort cooling/heating system. This element placed significant pressure on the solar PV and battery solution, and therefore caused generator fuel usage.
We needed a fix. When our engineers assessed the SolarCool system combined with the Midea DC Invertor Solar Thermal solution we could not believe the results. On average the SolarCool system reduced the trailers total energy consumption by over 70%.” The new clean energy system will be used throughout the new Hollywood Trucks fleet including talent trailers, wardrobe trailers, camera trucks and restroom trailers.
All new units are being engineered and built in-house from the ground up, using only the most luxurious, green, and state-of-the art products available. The finished article delivers a truly comfortable experience for the client, considerable cost saving for the production company and, most importantly, a significant reduction in the environmental impact.
Mr Champagne added: “Working closely with the SolarCool technical team has helped us immensely in this project, substantially reducing the trailers reliance on generator fuel usage, and carbon (CO2e) production. Additional benefits of the system allow the units to run virtually silent at a level of NC 20-22, an industry first.”
In addition to being available as a combined AC or Refrigeration solution, SolarCool can be retrofitted onto most well-known HVAC and Refrigeration systems with no size limitation. The only provison being that the system must have variable load ability e.g. inverter, staged, screw-type, and digital scroll for example.
