The scope of the organisation’s Components and Controls Manufacturers Group will be extended to work with government on shaping policy for connected appliance technologies
Heating controls will now be included in the scope of the Heating and Hotwater Industry Council’s (HHIC’s) Components and Controls Manufacturers Group that works to help shape government policy in a number of key areas.
HHIC director Stewart Clements said the revised group, which meets several times a year, would now also be interacting with government on helping to inform policy involving smart technologies that can link appliances with apps and other forms of monitoring products.
He said, “Connected Home is an area of significant importance and one which we want to engage with policymakers on a consistent basis to ensure the broad spectrum of views and interests are best represented.”
“The evolution of smart heating products and the installation of effective home heating controls are central to ensuring domestic energy efficiency; enabling the decarbonisation of household heat, and also reduction of heating costs.”
The revised Components and Controls manufacturers group held an inaugural meeting. The session, which was chaired by Mark Jones of Honeywell, considered the potential for improving connectivity between boiler appliances and their controls.
Andrew Keating, marketing director of manufacturer Baxi who also services as HHIC chair and a member of the controls group welcomed the decision to extend the body’s scope to smart technologies.
He said, “This is an exciting and logical step for HHIC who already facilitate strong and effective links throughout the industry and with government. The move to increase the groups’ scope and influence will be vital in shaping heating policy moving forward.”
