Hoshizaki Co., Ltd. will launch a total of 68 models, including 44 commercial refrigerators and 24 freezers that use natural refrigerants in the popular price range, in May 2023. Sales will start from the end of the month through Hoshizaki's sales company.

Growing interest in eco-friendly products against the background of penetration of SDGs

CFC alternatives do not deplete the ozone layer, but they are greenhouse gases with a very high global warming potential (GWP) of tens of times to more than 10,000 times compared to carbon dioxide (CO2). For this reason, there is an increasing international demand for conversion from CFC substitutes to non-CFC. Furthermore, in Japan, the penetration of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the growing awareness of environmental issues are accelerating.

Reducing environmental impact by reducing greenhouse gas emissions over the life cycle

Hoshizaki announced in February this year that it will switch all commercial freezers for the domestic market to natural refrigerants by the end of 2024. This time, they will expand the lineup by releasing 68 models of vertical refrigerators and freezers with a height of 1910 mm.

In the midst of the recent rise in prices including material costs, Hoshizaki has advanced research and development to make it easier to introduce products with high added value, and has reduced the standard price to 105% compared to conventional CFC substitute models. A wide lineup and popular price will make it easier for customers to adopt environmentally friendly products.

Compared to CFC alternatives, natural refrigerants have a very low global warming potential. It reduces greenhouse gas emissions over the life cycle of the product and contributes to the reduction of the environmental burden. Since natural refrigerant products are not subject to the Fluorocarbons Emissions Control Law, there is no need for simple inspections of flon or reporting of leaks, which can be expected to reduce the burden on customers.
