Toshiba Carrier is testing a spot zone air conditioning system to provide heating and cooling to a public viewing area at Chiba City Zoological Park, east of Tokyo, Japan.
The system, based on Toshiba Carrier’s Flex Air 2 packaged air conditioner spot cooler, uses well water at two locations at the observation deck in the centre of the zoo. The system will deliver cool air in summer and warm air in winter through a louvre that automatically swings left and right to reach visitors.
Toshiba Carrier says this demonstration test will enable the company to identify issues for practical application of an air flow system using well water, with a view to applying it to similar facilities in the future.
