The Spanish air conditioning equipment manufacturers association, AFEC, is to collaborate with Spain’s electricity providers to promote heat pumps.
The collaboration with Spain’s association of electric power companies, AELĒC, is said to recognise that the country’s economic reactivation following the coronavirus lockdown must take into account the commitments previously acquired and seek to fulfil the objectives set out in the European Green Deal and the Integrated National Plan for Energy and Climate (PNIEC).
AELĒC represents the Spanish suppliers EDP, Endesa, Iberdrola, Naturgy and Viesgo.
The agreement will encompass joint collaboration projects, a sharing of synergies and information, and as well as joint analysis, study, dissemination and promotion actions for the heat pump.
“The heat pump is key to decarbonisation policies, while helping to achieve the European objectives regarding: energy efficiency, use of energy from renewable sources and reduction of CO2 emissions. This technology also plays a major role in the electrification of the system and in the gradual reduction of the use of fossil fuels, contributing to sustainability,” said AFEC director general and secretary general Pilar Budí.
The director general of AELĒC, Paloma Sevilla, stressed that “the electrification of sectors with high energy consumption is essential to achieve the objectives of the energy transition. The introduction of the heat pump will allow us to advance in energy efficiency, without forgetting that this labour-intensive activity will contribute to the economic recovery by generating quality employment ”.
