From 16 to 18 October 2018, Chillventa will once again turn Exhibition Centre Nuremberg the international meeting place for the refrigeration, AC, ventilation and heat pump community. The event kicks off on 15 October with the Chillventa CONGRESS, where experts from all over the world are able to get exactly the information they need on the latest trends and developments.
Daniela Heinkel, Chillventa Exhibition Director at NürnbergMesse, talks about how the exhibition has evolved and what innovations experts can look forward to seeing.

What can experts look forward to at Chillventa 2018? How has the exhibition evolved?
Daniela Heinkel: “In terms of display area, Chillventa has grown yet again. The new hall configuration that we were able to use for the first time in 2016 has proven successful. The feedback from visitors shows us how important it is to have a clear structure to the exhibits. This makes it easier for people to navigate the event and prepare for their trade fair visit.
In addition, we are very pleased that many exhibitors have booked larger stands this year. This is also a sign of their enormous confidence in the event. Experts from all over the world come together at Chillventa to obtain information, share their views, and present and initiate new projects. We are expecting to once again welcome around 32,000 trade visitors and achieve a total of 1,000 exhibiting companies from all over the world for the first time.
The Chillventa CONGRESS and the exhibitor forums in the halls are the know-how highlights of the event. Exhibitors and associations from all around the world, as well as trade visitors and journalists, use the event as their industry platform. Here is where you meet people, cultivate and expand networks and conduct business. The average proportion of international exhibitors is higher than 68%, which is very high. Once again, we expect 57% of visitors to come from other countries. Clearly, Chillventa is an internationally oriented event by experts for experts: “Chillventa Connecting Experts.”
How has Chillventa’s international refrigeration, air-conditioning, ventilation and heat pump network been further developed?
Daniela Heinkel: “As I mentioned before, Chillventa in Nuremberg is a highly international event. And we want to live up to this claim on a worldwide basis. The international refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation and heat pumps portfolio is unrivalled and has exhibited a very positive development over the years. NürnbergMesse has built up an impressive worldwide network in recent years comprising the leading exhibition Chillventa and the European Heat Pump Summit in Nuremberg, ACREX India, REFCOLD India and the European Pavilion powered by Chillventa at China Refrigeration.
Experts from around the world can look forward to the international refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation and heat pumps network that we will continue to expand, wherever it makes sense to do so. After all, our motto “Chillventa Connecting Experts” applies here as well.
What are the main thematic focus areas at Chillventa 2018?
Daniela Heinkel: “With its extensive range of exhibits, Chillventa presents a cross-section of the industry with components, systems and applications for refrigeration, AC, ventilation and heat pumps. This year, the trade fair and CONGRESS will focus on topics like the Internet of Things (IoT), the IT security of refrigeration systems, implementation of the Regulation on Evaporative Cooling, Cooling Towers and Wet Separators (42nd BlmSchV), current climate targets, eco-design, reclamation and treatment of refrigerants, efficiency through controls, innovation in heat transfer, air conditioning of data centres, heat recovery and system solutions for hot water.
Chillventa features an extensive supporting programme. Where and how can trade visitors catch up with the latest developments?
Daniela Heinkel: “This year too we have plenty in store for our visitors in terms of knowledge transfer and professional dialogue. On Monday 15 October 2018, the day before Chillventa, the Chillventa CONGRESS will provide experts with comprehensive insights into the latest industry topics.
Internationally renowned speakers will provide knowledge from research, development and practice as well as information on the current political framework in Europe and worldwide.
The programme includes the 5th Refrigeration Technology Innovation Day:
Energy Efficiency and Climate Protection (in German)
Noted speakers will talk about cutting-edge topics in three specialist forums located in the middle of the halls. The latest product developments and innovative solutions in the areas of energy efficiency and energy savings will be presented in Halls 9 (applications, training and regulations), 7A (refrigeration technology) and 4A (air conditioning, ventilation and heat pumps).
Alongside innovations at the exhibitors’ stands, there will once again be interesting special presentations on the topics “Hygiene in air-charged heat exchangers” and “The heat pump, key technology for a successful energy transition”.
All told, trade visitors can look forward to more than 150 high-calibre presentations in the Chillventa CONGRESS, exhibitor forums and special presentation areas.
In recent years, Chillventa has been the first port of call for people seeking innovations and the very latest product presentations. How do you rate the outlook for this year?
Daniela Heinkel: “We assume that the exhibitors will use Chillventa as they have in the past, to present their innovations and newest products to the trade community. In fact, numerous companies have already told us that Chillventa is now the only exhibition in Europe where they will present themselves and their latest products. This confirms our assessment that Chillventa is pursuing just the right strategy. This is because the right trade visitors from all over the world come here to meet.”
The Chillventa AWARD is now in its second round. Who is the lucky winner this year?
Daniela Heinkel: “We are delighted to have launched the Chillventa AWARD in 2016 and happy that it has been so well received in the industry, so it will be presented again in 2018. The jury will meet at the end of September to once again determine the winners out of the large number of submissions.
This year's award will once again honour the expert teams (planners, plant engineers, owners and operators) who have executed a project of outstanding quality in terms of operability, energy consumption and technical innovation, through exemplary collaboration that goes beyond the technical standards. In the spirit of Chillventa’s motto of “connecting experts”, the jury will give special consideration to the effective cooperation of all parties involved in the project, from the task formulation stage to the planning and construction phases, and on through to operation. The high level of quality attained in the candidate projects through collaborative planning must be readily comprehensible and self-evident. Awards will be given in the four categories of commercial refrigeration, industrial refrigeration, air-conditioning technology and heat pumps. The members of the winning projects in each category will be honoured at the Chillventa on 16 October 2018 in the Forum in Hall 7A.”
Have you also planned any special activities for tradespeople again at Chillventa 2018? Have you invited a celebrity guest again?
Daniela Heinkel: “Following the fantastic feedback from visitors from the refrigeration, AC, ventilation and heat pump trades regarding the successful involvement of Konny Reimann and Hackl Schorsch, we spoke to our exhibitors and visitors to find out what they wanted in 2018. The overwhelming majority wanted to see Miss Chillventa in person at the trade fair, so we’ve invited her along. Not only will she be available for photo sessions, she will also present the Chillventa AWARD and the prizes for the Federal Skills Competition.”
How do you think Chillventa is going to continue to develop?
Daniela Heinkel: “We assume that Chillventa will continue to develop positively in the next few years.”
