USA: Refrigerant manufacturer Chemours is to invest $150m in a new chemical research and innovation facility in partnership with the University of Delaware.

Construction to the new 312,000ft² facility on the University of Delaware’s Science, Technology and Advanced Research (STAR) Campus is expected to begin this year, with plans for completion by early 2020. When fully operational, it will employ 330 researchers and technicians.

“Chemours wants to be the best in the world at using chemistry to develop products and applications that serve our customers’ needs,” said Chemours president and CEO Mark Vergnano, “and having a state-of-the-art innovation center and a long-term research partnership with the University of Delaware puts us in a stronger position to do just that.”

In addition to producing refrigerants for air conditioning and refrigeration applications, Chemours supplies a wide range of industries with chemicals  found in plastics and coatings, mining and general industrial manufacturing.
