York YK centrifugal chillers have been specified to provide an innovative cooling solution at Finland’s largest open data centre.

Johnson Controls, the global diversified technology and multi-industrial leader, has won a significant contract to provide an innovative cooling solution at Finland’s largest open data center being built for Telia Finland, the leading new generation telco in the Nordics and Baltics.

The new facility being built in Helsinki for Telia Finland, the leading new generation telco in the Nordics and Baltics, will use electric energy from renewable and carbon neutral sources. Waste heat will be recycled and used in district heating network.

The first phase of the facility is expected to cost between €130m and €150m. The Telia data centre will be operational and offering services to businesses in Finland in spring 2018.

The 33,500m² data centre will have a 24MW IT-power capacity – meaning it will require further eight chilling units to cool the massive ICT-infrastructure in the future. The new facility is intended to satisfy growing demand for cloud, colocation and other services around the Finnish capital, where electricity is relatively inexpensive and climate is cool.
