United Steelworkers Local Union 1999, which represents Carrier employees, has clarified the number of union jobs saved in the Carrier deal with President-elect Donald Trump. The confirmed number of jobs saved was detailed in a flyer given to members on Monday.

SNIPS obtained a copy of the flyer, which states the local union learned last Thursday from Carrier that 730 production and maintenance jobs and 70 management jobs — out of the total 1,400 that were being sent to Mexico beginning in 2017 — will be saved and will remain in Indianapolis.

The dedicated USW members in Indianapolis who build quality heating equipment for Carrier deserve credit for bringing the union’s fight to save their jobs to the attention on the nation during the 2016 presidential campaign,” USW International President Leo W. Gerard said. “We thank President-elect Trump for listening to our members and following through on his campaign pledge to persuade Carrier to keep production of quality heating equipment in Indianapolis.”

Initial job numbers from the deal, which reached agreement last week, called for keeping“close to 1,000 jobs” in Indianapolis. USW Local 1999 said in the flyer it was not involved in any discussions with Trump and would be meeting with Carrier over the next few weeks to discuss the severance agreement and contract extension.

These numbers do not include the 700 Carrier workers at an electronics facility in Huntington, Indiana, who are expected to lose their jobs when United Technologies Electronic Controls moves to Mexico.
