Trane introduced the new AirfinityS rooftop air-to-air heat pump units with low global warming potential (GWP) R-454B refrigerant and Adaptive Frequency Drive variable speed compressors.

“Trane remains committed to rooftop technologies and continues to invest in product innovation and service to guarantee the support our customers look for,” said Louis Rompre, portfolio manager at Trane in Europe, Middle East and Africa. “We want to ensure that building and facilities owners have the peace of mind and the stability to focus on their operations, rather than worry about maintenance, spare parts, or replacement of their rooftop units. They can rest assured that Trane will not only deliver new technologies but support them throughout the entire lifecycle of their HVAC systems.”

The new addition to the Trane Airfinity rooftop portfolio is the AirfinityS air-sourced rooftop heat pumps with R-454B, variable speed technology and intelligent control. Available in capacities between 16 and 39kW in cooling and 14-36kW in heating, the new units offer proven performance with lower environmental footprint and a business-sound and sustainable alternative for fossil-fuelled heating systems in small to medium commercial and process applications.

The Airfinity rooftops are designed for flexibility and can be easily adapted to any roof curbs, eliminating complicated retrofit procedures. Being a plug-and-play, all-in-one cooling, heating and ventilation solution, the units save installers’ time and reduce first and ongoing maintenance and ownership costs.

The Trane Adaptive Frequency Drive technology delivers improved part load efficiency and adapts seamlessly to the building’s demand reducing energy consumption and offering tighter temperature control. To further increase sustainability of the buildings’ operations, Trane AirfinityS rooftops come with additional energy-saving features like adaptive airflow with variable speed fans, free cooling and heat recovery of exhaust air.

The low GWP R-454B refrigerant, offered by Trane across its entire portfolio of scroll compressor chillers, heat pumps, multi-pipe units and rooftops is a non-ozone depleting HFO/HFC  blend with GWP level of 467. The GWP is the lowest among the refrigerants available today for scroll compressor technology. R-454B offers 76% reduction in direct GWP impact against R-410A and 34% reduction against R-32 refrigerant. This answers customers’ need for a sustainable, highly efficient refrigerant option that future proofs their investment and mitigates the increasing tax rates put on refrigerants across Europe.
