Honeywell announced that more than 2,000 supermarket installations have been completed with its reduced-global-warming refrigerant Solstice N40 (R-448A), making it the industry's most widely accepted, lowest global-warming-potential (GWP) product.

Supermarkets are the most energy-intensive type of commercial buildings because of their large refrigeration systems, which accounts for about 50 percent or more of a supermarket’s total energy.

Honeywell's Solstice N40 is an energy-efficient replacement for commercial refrigeration applications, and has demonstrated 5 to 16 percent lower energy consumption than R-404A in medium- temperature refrigeration applications.

"Supermarkets are increasingly converting to lower-GWP refrigerants, not only to achieve global greenhouse gas reduction targets, but also to take advantage of the improved energy efficiency that the new technology offers," said David Cooper, director, Honeywell Refrigerants. "By choosing Solstice N40, supermarkets are reducing their impact on the environment and at the same time lowering costs due to improved energy efficiency."

In addition to Solstice N40, Honeywell's family of Solstice-branded products includes stationary, commercial refrigeration and mobile refrigerants, liquid and gaseous blowing agents, solvents and propellants - all based on Honeywell's HFO technology that helps customers lower their carbon footprint without sacrificing end-product performance.
